The University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES) is a co-educational, secular institution of higher learning. As a policy, the University selects and admits the most outstanding applicants without regard to their social, economic or ethic background to pursue scholarship, applied research and practical disseminate of knowledge.
Admission to Bachelors' Degrees
The student entry requirements to the University College will be the same as those of the traditional state universities with the necessary adjustments, consistent with maintenance of academic standards, to suit its peculiar circumstances. The following will be the academic requirements:
- General Certificate of Examination (Ordinary and Advanced Levels):
Passes at credit level in at least five (5) science subjects (including English and Mathematics) in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) ordinary level and three (3) passes in any of the following: Mathematics, Biology, Physics Chemistry and Geography at the Advanced level of the GCE. One of the Advanced Level passes should be grade D or better.
- Senior Secondary School ,Certificate (SSSC):
Passes in Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Integrated Science or Agricultural Science and three (3) elective science subjects with an aggregate score of 24 or better in Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council.
- Diploma and HND holders:
Candidates with Diploma and HND qualifications in the relevant subjects or field of study from recognized universities and institutions may be deemed to have earned the minimum requisite credit hours for level 100 to be considered for admission to level 200.
- Mature Student Admission:
Candidates aged at least 28 years with at least two years' post- secondary school working experience in Agriculture or Environmental related fields and who write and pass an entrance examination in English, Mathematics and General Paper in science and related subjects coupled with an interview, may be considered for admission.
- Transfer Students:
Candidates who have been formally admitted as regular students to the same Bachelor's degree course in any recognized University or institution and made satisfactory progress in his/her former institution for not less than one academic year may be considered for admission as a transfer student and may be admitted to level100 but not above level 200. This is because such transferred student must register with the UCAES for a minimum study period of at least six (6) semesters as a full time student before she/he becomes eligible for graduation.
The classification of the degree of such students will be based only on the courses taken at the College.
- Visiting/Occasional/Foreign Students:
The College shall admit students with the requisite qualifications and in similar or comparable programmes in their institutions, for varying durations as Visiting/Occasional/Foreign Student as the case may be.
Selection of Candidates
The final decision on the suitability of candidates for admission to any programme shall rest exclusively with the Admission Board.
