The University:
The University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES) is a tertiary education initiative by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council under the authority of the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin. The proposed university college was registered in October 2006 and is meant to be a contribution to the efforts being made by both government and non-governmental organizations to provide quality tertiary education to the youth who graduate from the second cycle institutions in Ghana.

Location:
The University College is located at Bunso, within the serene vicinity of the Cocoa College in the East Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region. It is a secular tertiary co-educational institution incorporated under the Ghana Companies Code, 1963 (Act 179) on the 19th of October 2006.

Vision:
The vision of the university college is to create an institution that will provide high quality environmental and agricultural education for students who will contribute to efforts being made at the local, regional and national levels to arrest imminent environmental catastrophe in Ghana and elsewhere.

Mission:
The mission of the university college in the next five years is to become an institution that provides high quality tertiary education in agriculture and the environment and through which developmental programmes in Ghana can be achieved with strong emphasis on high moral and ethical values among the youth. It will also help raise the standard of education and development at Bunso and its environs through outreach programmes which are demand-driven. UCAES aims to provide, thorough education and training, functional and general skills in contemporary studies/issues to Ghanaians in general within its core mandate of providing advanced studies in sustainable exploitation and preservation of the environment through the complementarities of teaching, research and dissemination/practice of knowledge so acquired.

Objectives:
The objectives of the university within the next five years are as follows:

  1. To provide quality tertiary education in agriculture environmental studies and other nationally relevant disciplines to its students
  2. To improve upon and also add to all existing facilities to enhance effective teaching and learning
  3. To attract more students to the university thereby making it an institution of choice in the country.
  4. To make the university financially sustainable.
  5. To have a student population of about 600 in the first three years.

Strategic Focus:
UCAES will be a provider of high-quality tertiary education in Ghana for both men and women from all social, religious and economic background. It will offer an integrated approach to human resource development by focusing on academic or professional disciplines that will make contributions to national development.

Mandate:

  1. Be both teaching and examining body.
  2. Provide facilities for higher learning, including technological and professional education for research and for advancement and dissemination of knowledge.
  3. Provide instruction in such branches of learning as the university may think fit, with studies in Agriculture and the Environment as its raison d'ĂȘtre.
  4. Co-operate with other bodies in the planned development of higher education and sustainable environmental practices globally.
  5. Conduct examinations for granting Degrees, Diploma, Certificates and other awards.


Programmes on Offer:
The University College, in keeping with its mandate, offers a four-year Bachelor of Science programme in Agriculture and Environmental Studies and a Certificate course in Information and Communication Technology as shown below:

  1. B.Sc. Sustainable Agriculture
  2. B.Sc. Sustainable Forestry
  3. B.Sc. Environmental Science and Management


UCAES is open to students from all backgrounds and nationalities who meet the Admission Requirements
